Juicing For Healthy, Glowing Skin

Gorgeous glowing skin starts on the inside. It’s not just the result of the products you choose to use. How happy and healthy you feel is what gives your that glow. I’m personally a huge fan of juicing and smoothies.

I recently connected with Hannah of The Vermont Juice Company and we just couldn’t stop talking. 1) What is the relationship between juicing and glowing skin?
There are numerous benefits to juicing for healthy skin! Raw, fresh, cold-pressed vegetable and fruit juices are PACKED with such a wide variety of essential living vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Because juice is free of fiber, it’s absorbed extremely efficiently, as our digestive tract uses very minimal energy to digest and assimilate the juice. This allows our energy to be focused on maintaining, repairing, and restoring the many other important functions within our bodies, such as detoxification, helping it perform at its best.  Glowing skin typically happens from the inside-out! The condition of our skin is often a reflection of the health of our digestive tracts, our diets, and bodies in general. Fueling our bodies with healthy food and juice is a great foundation for healthy skin. Certain juices have more skin-benefitting properties than others. The minerals in beet juice (copper, zinc) are especially great for healthy skin. Beets also help improve liver function, which in turn makes for glowing skin! Ginger is an anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant — both very important functions of a healthy complexion! Cucumbers are made up of mostly water, so drinking cucumber juice is very hydrating, and hydration is a huge factor in effective skincare. The beta-carotene, Vitamin A and Vitamin C in carrots all aid in fighting signs of aging, as well as supporting collagen production for more elastic, supple skin! Just to name a few 🙂
2) What are the emotional benefits of juicing? (How does it make you feel?)
Juicing, especially during a juice cleanse, can help with chemical imbalances within your body, improving your emotional and mental clarity! While cleansing, as your body continues to rest, release toxins, restore nutrients, and rebuild, many people may experience a heightened ability to focus, as well as an increase in energy, enthusiasm, motivation, and happiness.
3) What other healthy habits do you recommend?
There are SO many that I recommend! Here is a list of some of my favorites:
 
Drink lots of water! I keep a water bottle with me to sip and refill throughout the day. I especially love Alkaline water, which helps balance your body’s pH.
 
•Morning lemon & apple cider vinegar water! I start each day with an elixir of warm water with fresh lemon juice and about a tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar. There are many benefits to this, including balancing pH, improving digestion, and boosting your immune system.
 
•Get quality sleep! I strive for at least 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. It’s important to begin winding down, finish your last meal a couple hours prior, and shut off electronic devices ahead of time. Grabbing a book and some chamomile tea is a great way to relax and prepare for sleep.
 
•Exercise! I strive to exercise at least 5 times per week. I mix cardio and strength workouts to keep things varied, and keep my body guessing. I’ve found it’s easier to stick with an exercise routine when your surround yourself with friends who enjoy it too!
 
•Yoga and meditation! I enjoy practicing yoga at least 1-2 times per week. I find that it relaxes and energizes my body and mind, allows me to focus, feel grounded, peaceful, and grateful.
 
•Sunshine and fresh air! Sun is crucial for Vitamin D and calcium absorption. 
 

Healthy diet! Make time to fuel and nourish your body each day. I enjoy eating as many whole, clean meals as possible. This means unprocessed, organic veggies, fruits, carbs, proteins, and healthy fats. I stay away from dairy, refined sugar, and gluten. I love eating as much plant-based food as I can, and if I choose to eat meat or eggs, I make sure it’s humanely raised and, ideally, local! I rely heavily on juices and smoothies for easy, nutrient dense meals or snacks throughout my day!

 
Exfoliation and skin brushing! I use a bristle brush, brushing my entire body using long strokes, toward my heart. This is great for exfoliation, stimulating your lymphatic system to aid in detoxification, and overall blood circulation. It feels so rejuvenating!
 
Natural & organic body and beauty products! First of all, FLOURISH is the perfect example of this!
